Stop Church Closures in Algeria!

Click here to Persecution Watch Page
Open Doors

Hebrews 13:3 (King James Version)

Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body

The church in Algeria is under attack and needs our support!

In March 2006, a new law governing non-Muslim places of worship was enacted and is threatening the very existence of Algerian churches. Since November 2007, 26 of the 52 known churches and Christian meeting groups have been ordered to close.

Please send an email to Algerian Ambassador Kherbi, on their behalf.

Algeria’s official state religion is Islam, and religious minorities like Christianity are seen as a threat to the government’s internal affairs. Anyone found trying to convert a Muslim to Christianity can receive a sentence of two to five years imprisonment and given a fine up to $15,800. Christianity has been compared to terrorism, and Muslim schools and mosques have been encouraged to continue the attack that threatens to drive the Christian community in Algeria underground.

Please email Ambassador Kherbi today, asking him to stop the closure of churches and to reopen those that have already been closed. We need to tell the Algerian government that these church closures must stop, and that freedom for all religions must be respected.

Learn more about the situation in Algeria>>

Thank you for your prayers and support for the Algerian Church!

VOM-USA News & Prayer Update (May 27, 2008)

The Voice of the Martyrs

“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,” (1 Timothy 1:12)

IRAN Iranian Police Arrest 12 Christian Converts, Four Remain in Prison – Compass Direct News

On May 12, Iranian police arrested 12 known Muslim converts to Christianity and confiscated their books, computers and printers in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz. According to Compass Direct News, “The arrests began at 5 a.m. on May 11, when two couples were taken into custody before boarding their flights at the Shiraz International Airport and sent directly to jail. All four were subjected to hours of interrogation, questioning them solely ‘just about their faith and house church activities.’” Compass Direct News added the detained Christians had been identified as: Homayon Shokohie Gholamzadeh, 48; his wife, Fariba Nazemiyan Pur, 40; Amir Hussein Bab Anari, 25; and his wife, Fatemeh Shenasa, 25. Although the two wives were released the same day, Anari was detained until May 14, and Gholamzadeh remains jailed. “Two hours after the early arrests of May 11, police authorities invaded the home of Hamid Allaedin Hussein, 58, arresting him and his three adult children: Fatemah, 28; Muhammed Ali, 27; and Mojtaba, 21. All the family’s books, CDs and computers were hauled off as well. Hussein, his daughter and one son were released later the same day, but [his] son Mojtaba remains in prison,” Compass Direct added. On May 13, local police also arrested two more former Muslims involved in a separate house church in Shiraz as the Christian converts were talking together in a city park. Both men, Mahmood Matin and a second man identified only as Arash, are still in jail. Yet another arrest incident was reported last month in the northern city of Amol, in Mazandaran province near the Caspian Sea. Two of the arrested converts to Christianity, one a pregnant woman, are still imprisoned with no news of their whereabouts. Psalm 91

CHINA Prominent House Church Leader Arrested – China Aid Association

On May 19, Pastor Lou Yuanqi, a prominent house church leader in the town of Qingshuihe, Xinjiang province, was arrested by police. According to China Aid Association, “After being interrogated for an hour in the township police station, Yuanqi was transferred to a detention centre and charged with ‘inciting separatism.’ The pastor has been previously arrested several times. This is the first instance, however, of him being placed under criminal detention which means that he will likely face a serious indictment in court.” Pray for Pastor Yuanqi to experience the joy and peace of Christ while he suffers. Pray for Chinese house church leaders to stand in God’s grace as they continue to face pressure from the authorities. Acts 5:40-42

NIGERIA Teenage Girls Kidnapped By Muslims; Rescue Incites Violence – Compass Direct News

On May 12, the police rescued two Christian girls, Mary Chikwodi Okoye (15) and Uche Edward (14), kidnapped by Muslim militants three weeks earlier in Bauchi state, Nigeria. According to Compass Direct News, “The kidnappers initially took the girls to the house of a Muslim leader in the town of Wudil. Okoye’s foster father and a group of believers heard where the girls were being held. When they arrived at the home, however, the girls had been relocated to the residence of a Muslim leader in Ningi. When the team went to this home they were told by the leader that the girls had converted to Islam and could not be released. The police then stepped in and evacuated the girls to eastern Nigeria where they were reunited with their biological parents.” Compass added that the following day, Muslims associated with a paramilitary arm of Kano state’s Sharia Commission went on a rampage, attacking Christians and setting fire to local churches, in protest of the girls’ release. Six church buildings, the Deeper Life Bible Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, All Souls Anglican Church, Church of Christ in Nigeria, Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Redeemed Peoples Mission, were destroyed in the attack. The Muslims also attacked shops belonging to Okoye’s foster father, looting and destroying goods worth over 50 million naira (US $430,198). Thank the Lord that Mary and Uche were found safe. Ask God to strengthen those affected by the mob attack to enable them to remain steadfast as they suffer. Pray that young Christian girls in Nigeria who have been kidnapped by Muslims will remain strong in faith and be freed. Revelation 2:10

Demonslayer Becomes IN His

Subject: Demonslayer Becomes IN His

Dear Saints,

Demonslayers Deliverance Ministries has changed its name. It is now IN His Presence
Deliverance Ministries. The anointing of the Holy Ghost destroys the yokes and does the
delivering. We have been teaching all along that a very personal marriage of each of us
independently as a whole body to Jesus is the only way to enter into the throne room. When you
enter in, all yokes must leave. You are stripped naked and bare and you are free. We are changing
the name to honor the name above all names Jesus Christ and being innnn His presence.

Here is what I believe, I believe allll scriptures (the Word of God) is hinged on Matthew 6:33. Seek
ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these other things shall be added unto you.
Along with seek God with all your heart, mind and soul and all that is within you. If we seek Him
first He takes care of everything else. From health to wealth and tons of favor. I do not
believe in Old Testament tithing as far as 1/10th goes, we believe you should give all. I believe in
tithing but in the grace era of the new covenant of the New Testament. Jesus said he loves a cheerful
giver. As an example I agree as a forced issue with condemnation and you are under a curse is
totally from the pit of hell. If you are only giving Jesus 10 percent you are ripping Him off. I
think it’s great people give 10 percent and tithe it but Jesus gave everything and I believe so
should we. Take the word tithe directly out of the Old Testament and bring it over to the new
testament and simply change it to giving. Giving not to get anything but only to make Jesus happy.
That’s it on tithing, no more arguments here. I ask for people to give all. I follow very closely
Matthew 25: 30-46, myself I want to be on the sheep pile, not with the goats. If you send a meal to
the homeless or give a book to a prisoner or send clothes to the naked, or send water to the thirsty
or call a lonely widower over the phone and show them love it is the same as going to do it
yourself. If you can’t get in to do it or can’t go then write, send or call. It does their hearts
good. That day is coming soon so be ready. Now lets take all this and find out how it relates to
Matthew 6:33. Do you really understand how Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit live in you.

Bless you all, —Bishop Carlucci and Kathleen

God bless you in all you are, do and say for HIS GLORY!

And we agree it is HE who is IN us who is GREATER than we in this

has received prayer before, but nothing happened.

This Chaplain has asked me to put her on prayer chains which I will do,
but you Carlucci came to mind, I am sensing strongly from the Lord you
will pray the perfect deliverance prayer need for this child! Amen …

MNN Prayer List For 23 May, 2008

Evangelism controversy brewing at China Olympics

China (MNN) — Controversy is brewing in Christian circles about evangelism at the summer Olympics in China. Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, told reporters that he’s against overt evangelism in China because it’s against Chinese law. Open Doors USA President Carl Moeller says, “Franklin Graham’s comments I think were designed for a political audience to give him probably more access. And I’m not to criticize a brother, but I would say the Gospel has always been preached in places where governments did not want it preached.” God’s Word says to be ready to share the Gospel in any season, says Moeller, even under unknown government or religious persecution. Open Doors actually has a plan for the Olympics. “We’re actually encouraging travelers to the Olympic Games to call Open Doors, to visit Open Doors and to get from us some materials that are specifically designed for evangelism during the Olympic Games. We feel like evangelism during the Olympic Games will be a tremendous opportunity.”

* Pray that many visitors will have opportunities to share their faith.

* Ask God to protect house church leaders.

* Pray that Christians will be bold in their witness during the Olympics.

Emotional support offered by Christian group in China quake recovery

China (MNN) — China’s practice of having only one child per family is exacting a great price in the wake of the deadly quake. Many among the more than 22,000 people killed across central China were students in school. International Bible Society-Send The Light’s Sues Hyde: “Many parents have had one child, and that one child was lost. Right now, they do not feel hope; they do not feel any kind of comfort. They feel very desperate.” The surviving parents are finding it hard to restart their shattered lives. Hyde says, “It actually takes the longest to rebuild the emotional and spiritual lives, compared to rebuilding the physical life. One of the things that we have done is provide a disaster journal. Disaster survivors often have similar questions.” The journal helps people walk through the grieving. It also allows for believers to respond. “God’s Word can give them hope. It can bring some comfort to them. Pray that other believers who are in their lives will allow God to use them to bring them that hope.”

* Pray that believers will be ready with the Gospel of peace when the questions arise.

* Pray for those families struggling with their loss in this disaster.

* Pray that IBS-STL will have the resources and contacts they need to respond.

Mourning period declared for cyclone victims; hopes rise for open door

Myanmar (MNN) — Myanmar has declared a three-day mourning period starting today for its cyclone victims. Faced with the threat of another wave of death from mass starvation and disease, they’ve also tentatively agreed to accept aid from their Southeast Asian neighbors. There are even reports that the country is starting to seek medics. Global Aid Network, or GAiN-USA’s Charles Debter: “We are working with Burmese locals who are medical professionals, who are able to go in. And yet we are working with officials in the country with the Ministry of Health to gain permission–and that’s a prayer request, that that might come about.” Debter says six truckloads of food and water filters made it into the country for distribution. They’ve already trained 350 pastors and other church leaders to distribute the relief in specific target area. “By training the local believers to reach out with care, we are able to demonstrate the love of God through providing tangible help and spiritual hope among those that survived.”

* Pray that the GAiN medic team gets approved for work in Myanmar.

* Pray that the Lord would comfort the children and families who are suffering as a result of the storm.

* Pray that believers distributing relief meet with open hearts, too.

Kidnappings, forcible conversion ignite rampage in Nigeria

Nigeria (MNN) — An Islamic militant group recently kidnapped two Christian teenage girls in northern Nigeria, with the intent of forcible conversion. Their rescue ignited a riot that destroyed six churches in Bauchi State. Bernie Daniel with Voice of the Martyrs Canada says this highlights a trend: “Kidnapping teenage Christian girls by militant Muslims has become kind of a recurrent and ongoing practice. There are 13 Christian teenage girls who have been abducted, forcibly converted to Islam, and married to older Muslim men so that their whereabouts are still unknown.” But Daniel says the violence will have little impact overall on the vibrancy of the church. “Nigeria is a nation where there is an active evangelism both in the southern parts of the nation and also in the northern-dominated states. Evangelism will continue. The church of Nigeria will continue to grow, despite this opposition from Islamic militants.”

* Pray that the kidnapped girls will find peace in Christ and be released.

* Pray for peace and strength for Christians facing opposition from Muslims in Nigeria.

* Pray that Christians will demonstrate the love of Christ, in spite of the opposition that they face.

Iranian police arrest 12 Christian converts

Iran (MNN) — The underground evangelical church is growing exponentially in Iran, and authorities appear to be taking action against it. President of Open Doors USA Carl Moeller says 12 Muslim-background believers were arrested last week. Four are still jailed. Moeller says, “Iranian authorities are recognizing that there’s a mushrooming house church movement going on in Iran. (It’s) doubling in size of the indigenous house church movement there in Iran every six months. So the rate of growth is actually stunning.” The arrests began last week with arrests in airports and homes. Christian radio and television have been embraced by Iranians, says Moeller, because of disillusionment. “This disillusionment with these conservative clerics, and this harsh political hatred creates a tremendous opportunity for the love of Jesus Christ to make inroads into people’s lives. People are searching for real spiritual answers, and they are finding it in Jesus Christ.” Funding is needed for the demand in Christian resources.

* Pray that resources will get into the hands of those who need it most.

* Ask God to give them boldness to share their faith.

* Pray that new believers will grow in their faith.

8-) More Prayer Requests

From: Karen

Cal still is doing well. She’s a hefty 35 pounds now.
She is impossible to carry long distances but still cannot walk. She’s
outgrown her umbrella stroller so we are waiting for a wheelchair that’s
she’s been measured for. She is crawling quite well now although the
ostomy bag and g-tube extension can slow her down. She can hold her self
up straight on her knees. I’m sure pretty soon she’ll be taking some
steps. In the meantime, we need some help getting her around. The only
mode of transportation we have now is her push-buggy her grandma got for
her except now she tries to dive out of it as everything on the outside
ground intrigues her. It’ll take 90 days apparently to get the
wheelchair. I pulled out Noah’s old stroller which seems to fit her. I
think this week I am going to try to venture out with her and the kids.

We are finally able to get laminate flooring and get that moldy carpet
up out of the house. We are grateful for the help we recieved to make
that possible :-)

Hopefully by the end of the month, we’ll be able to kiss that carpet
goodbye.

Noah and Cozy got their first pets a few weeks ago. Two fancy rats named
Speed Racer and Sleeping Beauty – they’re both boys but Cozy was hard
pressed to think of a boy’s name.

Cal has her ups and downs with her ostomy output. Recently, it’s been
better. Her electrolytes are okay and her magnesium is still good. I
have to give her daily IV boluses of mag and draw her blood on Monday
Wednesday and Friday for testing at the docs.

She’s a Bunnytown fanatic now and we have to watch it continually on
the DVR.

Even during the stress of everything, we understand this is a respite
from a long journey we are not eager to begin again. Thank you for your
continued prayers.

Love, —Karen

7-) More Prayer Requests

May 21, 2008 at 01:21 AM EDT-(update from Cat’s grandma)

Hi Everyone,

Friday May 16 was the second anniversary of the death of Eileen, Cat’s
mother. As well, Cat got her broviac catheter for the Remodulin that day
and was revived during the surgery. We have been told that 99% of kids
with PH are not revivable and she has been brought back three times that
we know of now. The Lord had and, we pray, has more for her to do on
this earth.

Anyway, very early on the morning of May 16, 2008 her blood pressure
went down below the level that meant we had to call her cardiologist
when she was at home. I was staying with her that night and the
anniversary was on my mind. The nurse wasn’t worried and changed to a
smaller cuff which gave a higher reading. Then her blood pressure
continued to get even lower and I got nervous enough to have the nurse
get the duty doctor. He checked her over, changed back to the larger
cuff and told the nurse what her wanted her to watch for. Cat stayed at
low pressure for a few hours and then it edged up and has been okay
since then.

Then the next day she began to have a too rapid heartbeat – often over
130. That was the parameter they did not want her to exceed. That
settled down and now only happens when she exerts herself too much.
Tonight she took a walk and her pulse rate was up to 140+. Tomorrow we
will check to see what that means.

We are still tweaking the decorating of her room. She has picked a
fabric for her curtains, furry (like a blanket) with pink flowers. I
took her photos of different furry fabrics and she chose that one. There
will also be touches of Orange and Blue – Gator colors. I will post
photos of her room as soon as the curtains are up.

As always, we all are grateful for all your well wishes and prayers.
Please continue to pray for the medical staff at Shands. Pray that a
family will make the difficult decision to donate their child’s organs
which will be a match for Cat during the most wretched time in their
lives and pray for them in their time of sorrow. Please keep praying for
her to remain stable enough and strong enough to last until organs
become available and that she can survive the surgery and do well
afterward.

Thank you, thank you all our prayer warriors.

Love, — Ma Gee (Cat’s grandmother)

PRAYER ALERT: Gospel Star’s Daughter Hit, Killed by Car

Aimee Herd (May 21, 2008)

“It looks like a tragic accident.”

(Nashville, Tenn.) -In a tragic accident, the five-year-old
daughter of Christian recording artist, Steven Curtis Chapman, was
killed this afternoon when she was struck by an SUV driven by her
teenage brother. (Photo: StevenCurtisChapman.com)

According to the AP report, the older sibling of Maria-one of
Chapman’s adopted daughters from China-did not see the little
girl, and she was hit by the vehicle in the family’s driveway. The
tragic event was witnessed by several other family members.

Maria was reportedly rushed to the hospital, but died later. “It
looks like a tragic accident,” said a spokesperson for the
Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The Chapmans founded the ministry, Shaohannah’s Hope, to assist in
foreign adoptions, and have two other children they also adopted
from China.

The Gospel singer/songwriter recently published a book, to
accompany one of his latest hit singles, titled Cinderella-the
Love of a Daddy and His Princess.
