President Bush will welcome to the White House President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of the Republic of Liberia on October 18. Pray for the two leaders as they meet to discuss cooperation in education, reconstruction, trade and investment and debt relief.

As another school shooting has rocked students in Cleveland, OH pray for the safety and protection of all our children in schools and universities across our country. Pray for God’s powerful protection over every campus.

As the White House has issued a new National Strategy for Homeland Security, give thanks for the great progress in securing our nation in the years since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, praying that those responsible for keeping America safe will be guided and blessed by God in their efforts. Pray for the continued strengthening of our defense and prevention of the many threats we face including pandemic diseases, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, natural disasters and more. Pray that no further attacks will be planned against our citizens or our nation.

The bi-partisan education bill, No Child Left Behind, is due for re-authorization soon, and lawmakers are debating improvements that could be made to it. Pray for lawmakers and for President Bush as they consider re-authorization, asking that it be strengthened effectively to help America’s children learn with success.

As both President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush have condemned the military crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Burma, pray for recent sanctions and words of condemnation to have the desired effect. Pray especially for Christians in Burma who have experienced great persecution.

As the United States government has declared al Qaeda to be the greatest terror threat to our country, pray that God will confuse al Qaeda leaders and all terrorist organizations as they seek to enter our country, infiltrate our society and do harm to our citizens. Pray for law enforcement officials and all intelligence and security personnel in America to be vigilant.

As members of Congress debate the issue of wiretapping to safeguard the security of all Americans, pray for wisdom for those involved in the hearings, being held this week on Capitol Hill.

Pray also for lawmakers as they consider the spending bills submitted to them by President Bush—for wisdom to resolve the impasse between legislators who seek the best for their states and the President who seeks to control spending.

As debates continue and candidates have greater opportunities to declare their views, pray for God’s will to be done in the entire election process, giving thanks for the incredible blessings of democracy. Pray for voters of every persuasion to become well informed on key issues through events like the Values Voter Summit to be held October 19-21 in Washington, D.C.

Pray for the members of our military as they place their lives at risk day and night around the world, thanking God
for their dedication and sacrifice. Pray for the protection and safety of each one, asking God to cover them with His
care. Pray also for those who have lost a loved one in military service, asking God to provide His comfort and strength
for every family member.
